On 17 February 2020, His Majesty of Jordan opened the aqaba center for maritime education and training at Balaqa’ applied university, the first and only center at Jordanian universities, and the center accredited locally and internationally in accordance with the highest standards and requirements of the Jordanian maritime organization.
His Majesty toured the center and look about the practical application in the marine simulators, engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering workshops, part of the marine survey lecture, and engaged supervisors and trainee students, who stressed the importance of the center in linking theory in practice.
his majesty the king heard during the tour an explanation given by Dr. Abdullah Alzu’bi , president of AL Balqa Applied university , who pointed out that the center provides practical education and training for undergraduate students in shipping technology and a marine engineering diploma at aqaba university college, in addition to holding training programs for ship and other marine personnel with a view to advancing marine rank and renewing certificates for maritime personnel .
The center has agreements with companies that manage ships for training and employment purposes with over 80% of its graduates employed on board both domestically and internationally, Dr. Alzu’bi noted that Al balqa’ applied university was structuring aqaba university college into a center specializing in engineering and applied marine science at the regional level .
According to the dean of Al Aqaba college, the director of the center, Professor Farouq Al azzam, the center attracted trainees from several Arab countries including Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and Kenya and Pakistan.
